installation by MARKUS LINNENBRINK

I have had the pleasure of knowing Markus for about five years now. I was first introduced to his work when i moved to NYC, coming from Tokyo, i adored his sense of color placement and vibrancy. His work excited me, i felt happy and alive when i looked at his drip paintings and his drill paintings.
I saw my first installation of his in a Chelsea gallery in the early 2000's- i was overwhelmed! i am so honored and excited to now have his work living with me everyday. i am thrilled to look at it and when i do, I'm always see something new!
My clients also are amazed. its been so fun watching peoples expressions while they try to figure out the brilliance. Everyone has been picking out their favorite colors within the piece!
Its so much fun!
come check it out in person.

The next wave in hair care....NATURAL INGREDIENTS!

The one scary thing about looking good is that practically all the products we use today are packed with chemicals like sulfate and other synthetic properties. Shampoos, conditioners and styling solutions have so much of these mixed into them that it actually  seems they do us more harm than good. In fact, it was just discovered that "paraben," a preservative used in beauty products like shampoo and make-up, is a carcinogen! That is insane: we've been exposed to so much damaging chemicals that we may need to start asking ourselves if being beautiful is worth it.

But of course it is. We just need to avoid products that have too much of these chemicals, and start using products that recognize the importance of being beautiful and healthy. We don't need all these ingredients. Let's go back to the basics. Being beautiful doesn't need to be so complicated!

I've always believed in keeping things simple and natural. Right now, I am using a fabulous new product called BISH, which is an all-natural, moisturizing shampoo minus all the synthetic, hair-deadening agents. The shampoo contains only lush and proven effective ingredients like sea kelp and alginates. This shampoo is excellent for hair and scalp health---the difference is obvious in just a couple of months. Unfortunately, the store does not carry this shampoo or anything like it yet. It's a brand new product and I am privileged to be able to use it at my studio. (And it comes in a beautiful glass bottle, which I love).

It's all about taking a step back and rediscovering the natural.

And so we begin...

First thing on the agenda. The floor. The foundation. The base from which everything will rest upon.

All my life I've wanted to have dark floors. I love the dramatic earthiness of rich, dark wood, but never had a floor space big enough to get away with it. As soon as I saw this space, I knew I was going for it. This studio will definitely have dark floors.

After they sanded it out my best friend and I got down and did the staining and coloring ourselves.

Three days of furious scrubbing, and I got my coffee stain floors--- a beautiful contrast to the white walls, as Erica, who's in the picture on the right commented. (She's the first ever client in this new studio).

THE BEFORE PICTURE

As with all great makeovers let's do the before picture first. This space came calling exactly three weeks ago.

I had long wanted to have my own studio. I really have a tendency to get bored when I'm surrounded by the same walls too long, but I honestly didn't want to leave this great neighborhood, much less this building. So then this empty, lonely space (27 x 15 ft. 550 sq.ft) came up and I thought it was absolutely perfect. I could already imagine the things I could do with a place like this.

Seriously, it called to me.
